Matt ‘Iron-Cow’ Cauley’s background lies in the visual arts. Although Matt was born in Dallas, he moved to New York in 1992 and began to attend Parson’s School of Design. Shortly after obtaining his BFA in Illustration, he began working for Bloomberg LP as a Broadcast Designer while further sharpening his illustration and toy design craftsmanship.
In 1999, Matt formed Iron-Cow Prod. LLC (ICP) to professionally further his reach into illustration, animation, design, and toy production.  His work is regularly published and exhibited worldwide, and he is a featured contributer to ToyFare Magazine. Over 50 ICP-designed action figures are currently on retail shelves, and Matt has interjected his personal design in a line of T-shirts now available nationwide in Macy’s department stores.
In 2008, Matt began to study painting under renowned portrait artist John Parks and has begun to produce a number of works. The works in this exhibit represent a portion of the ongoing Big Heads series, an ever-growing collection  of 20″ x 30″ portraits that convey an instantaneous snapshot of the models’ lives.
While observing any of the works from the Big Heads series, the viewer is encouraged to consider, question and debate the nature of each piece, what each ambiguously rendered subject is experiencing, thinking, or doing, and what the subject will do next.  In Matt’s paintings from this series, the viewer becomes an active participant in each piece: their interpretation of the subject is as much a part of the art as are the paints on the canvas.  Matt has captured individual stories and contexts in these works as much as he’s captured the likenesses of his models.  Each painting represents a momentary scene from a chapter of the book of each model’s life; for each painting, for each viewer, a new story emerges.
Matt currently resides in New Jersey with his ever-increasing number of pets (along with his amazingly patient wife) and can be frequently found lurking about in the basement, generally avoiding housework in the pursuit of visual creativity.
Matt’s illustration, broadcast, fine art, and toy design portfolios can be seen at the official Iron-Cow Prod. website at http://www.ironcowprod.com.
